| In 2005, CLONE successfully completed a
$35,000 grant proposal for federal funds to develop a
regional technology plan. The 150 page report makes 12
recommendations for cooperative action by CLONE. The intent
was to have a plan to offer all library users in the region
(89,000 card holders for CLONE libraries) greater access to
all the resources offered by area libraries and to make such
access easier for the patrons no matter which library they
primarily use. Using this plan, so far CLONE has: |
- Agreed on a legal structure for the consortium
(Recommendation 1)
|
- Improved infrastructure where necessary to provide
better technological support for cooperative efforts (R.
2)
|
- Three public libraries have begun using the same
automation system to promote greater use of collections
and create cost savings. (R. 3)
|
- Three academic libraries have jointly purchased
databases resulting in cost savings (R. 9)
|
- Three public libraries have jointly purchased
hardware and software resulting in cost savings (R. 10)
|
- CLONE has launched a website to promote
collaborative services and projects, www.clonenc.org.
(R. 11)
